Should uniform civil code be implemented?


  • There needs to be bare minimum civil law protection for all, regardless of the religion 
  • All the other Islamic countries have codified their law to provide protection to women and children in matters relating to divorce, marriage, etc.
  • It is one of the vision of our forefathers as seen in directive principle of state policy
  • All the major countries have uniform civil code as it helps remove the discrepancies


  • Indian constitution guarantees minorities the right to follow their own religion, cultures and customs and being a secular country, this law would not go in favour of India
  • Minorities see it as domination of the dominant religion
  • Minorities have their own legal laws like islam has sharia law
  • Minority feels it as invasion to their rights
  • Present government is seen as right wing which marks a question on the intent
